ルーディ・スターンの最も有名な仕事はネオンサインのデザイン。1972年に「Let There Be Neon」工房を設立し、多くのネオンサインを製作。当時衰退していたネオンの復興に大きく貢献した。スターンの仕事はナム・ジュン・パイクやローリー・アンダーソンなど美術関係のためのものに止まらず、ブロードウェイのショーや飲食店の広告や看板など、多くの商業作品を手がけた。「Let There Be Neon」は現在でもマンハッタンで事業が続けられているそう。
